Where are floating jigs used?

Floating jigs are perhaps most commonly used in Ned rigging, because the Ned jig head remains in an upright position on the bottom due to its design. A jig head that remains upright ideally needs a floating jig as a companion. These floating jigs are also perfectly suited for Carolina rigging and Dropshot rigging.

Material of the floating jig

A floating jig is naturally not made of the same material as other jigs to make it float. The floating "pötkylä" jig is very stretchy and durable due to its design and alloy material.

In what conditions does a floating jig work best?

Floating jigs work best when you want the jig to rise upright from the bottom and remain lively underwater. They are particularly well suited for Ned and dropshot rigging, but also for Carolina, Texas, and Cheburashka techniques. Thanks to their material, they withstand temperature fluctuations well, and they are designed to effectively attract large and cautious fish like perch and zander, all year round. As a special note, Floating jigs work exceptionally well in cold water. If bouncing on the bottom doesn't work and the fish are in mid-water, there's no problem with mid-water retrieve. By trying different techniques, you can achieve catches in different location types and weather conditions.

Tip for storing floating jigs

Floating jigs should never be stored in the same boxes as ordinary sinking jigs. The materials react with each other and melt together. So, remember to keep floating jigs carefully in their own boxes, so you don't find a melted rubber blob at the bottom of your lure box next time you go fishing.
