The Green Toilet separates liquid from solid waste using the double bottom structure of the container. The container is equipped with wheels, making emptying effortless in just a few minutes. The composting Green Toilet does not require electricity or a sewer connection to operate. The Green Toilet 330 has good capacity, making it suitable for larger families at the cottage and for year-round use, as well as for public areas.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Inside the Green Toilet composting tank is a unique double bottom that separates excess liquid from the compost. This way, composting begins already during use. The double bottom works like a familiar self-watering pot: some of the liquid is absorbed back into the compost mass and accelerates the composting process. Effective composting requires the mass to be suitably moist: not wet, nor too dry.

The use of the Green Toilet is based on batch composting: when the container in use is full, it is pulled out on wheels and a replacement container is put in its place. A closed lid is placed on the full container, and it can be left to compost further in peace. This way, dry toilet maintenance takes only a few minutes, and no raw toilet waste needs to be handled at all. A full replacement container can be left to compost until it's time for the next change. After that, the contents of the replacement container will likely be ready for use as soil improver.

In addition to composting, the Green Toilet's ventilation pipe ensures odourlessness. It keeps the airflow in the correct direction: out from the seat and composting tank via the ventilation pipe. It also significantly affects liquid evaporation, especially in warm weather, reducing the amount of leachate.

The excess liquid from the composting toilet, i.e., leachate, separates from the compost thanks to the double bottom and drains through the bottom liquid hose into a collection canister. An alternative method for treating leachate is to direct it to a GeoTrap Outhouse Filter and from there, purified, into the terrain.

GREEN TOILET COMPOSTING TANK MATERIAL

The colour and material of our Green Toilet products (GT 120, GT 330, and GT Lux) will be updated in May 2026. We are transitioning from dark green plastic granules to black recycled material, which is a durable, high-quality, and environmentally responsible choice. The change only affects the product's appearance – dimensions, functionality, quality, and pricing remain completely unchanged. The timeless black colour fits excellently into various environments and makes the products an even more versatile choice.

INSTALLATION

The product comes with a clear illustrated installation and user manual.

The entire composting tank and waste chute fit under the seat cabinet. The Green Toilet's waste chute is adjustable: it can be positioned 1-20 cm above the tank. This particularly facilitates installation in old outhouses.

There should be at least about 92 cm of space under the seat cabinet for the tank and a minimum of 66 cm wide opening behind the outhouse. If necessary, additional space can often be gained by digging out soil from under the seat cabinet or by raising the outhouse or seat cabinet. If the waste chute remains at a lower level, the excess part can be sawn off.

The ventilation pipe is often run up along the outer wall of the outhouse or house. Ventilation works best when the pipe is led as straight up as possible and preferably over the ridge. If necessary, all ventilation pipe accessories can be purchased separately from us, should the basic package not be sufficient.

MAINTENANCE

When the Green Toilet tank fills up, the first flexible part of the ventilation pipe and the liquid hose are detached from the tank. The wheel system is placed into its designated slots in the tank, if they are not already there. All these operations are done by hand, without tools. After this, the tank is pulled out of its place using the wheels.

When using a replacement tank, its bottom is lined with cover material to a thickness of about 10-15 cm. After this, the chute lid is placed on the empty tank and positioned under the seat. A closed lid is placed on the full Green Toilet tank, and it can be moved to a suitable place for post-composting until the next change.

APPLICATIONS

The larger Green Toilet 330 is ideal for cottages with a larger number of users, as well as for public places: summer cafes, guest harbours, nature trails, and other tourist destinations. It is also the right choice when long service intervals for the toilet are desired.
